DRESS IN PUBLIC AREAS
Whilst in all public areas of the Clubhouse members and their guests are expected to dress in a dignified manner consistent with the character and standing of the Club. Members are responsible for the dress of their guests at all times. In general terms, dark suits are considered normal Club attire however as a minimum, gentlemen must wear a jacket and tie, collared tailored shirt, long trousers and formal shoes. Ladies should dress in smart separates, elegant dresses or business attire.
All outerwear including overcoats, hats, and scarves must be hung in the cloakroom or left with reception. Luggage, shopping and umbrellas must also be left with reception, with the exception of ladies handbags. Briefcases may be taken into the business centre.
Gentlemen may remove jackets and ties in the Business Centre, Courtyard and the Goat.
Gentlemen may remove jackets and ties in the Canning Room after 1800 on Friday and in all areas of the Clubhouse on Saturday and Sunday and on Bank Holidays.
Blue denim jeans are not normally permitted in the Club. Smart and clean denim is permissible in the Goat at all times and in the coffee room during breakfast.
Sports wear of any form including polo or other soft collared shirts, sandals and trainers may not be worn at any time in the Clubhouse except in the Goat.
Members and guests accessing the Clubhouse via the main St James’s Square entrance should be dressed in accordance with the rules above. Those in more casual attire must use the Babmaes Street entrance.
Military dress can, of course, also be worn.
USE OF ELECTRONIC DEVICES IN PUBLIC AREAS
In general terms electronic devices should not be used in the Club except in the Business Centre and in the Goat. However members and guests may read small devices but not use a device for outgoing communication or with any audio trace at all. A small device includes an iPad but that is the maximum size permissible.
Business meetings and the use of business papers of any form are only permitted in the business centre and the Goat.
Children must be well behaved, quiet and under parental control at all times. Children over the age of 12 are to adhere to dress regulations as above. Children under the age of 12 are not permitted in the coffee room, except for breakfast, without prior approval from the Club Secretary.
After 2300 noise in the Courtyard must be kept to a minimum. Staff are under instruction to clear the Courtyard should any bedroom guests complain about noise.
